Bio

Hi, my name is Matthew Zeis, or Matt, either one.

(i doubt anyone will actually read this, but here it goes anyway)

I am an online student at Los Angeles Film School. I finally made the leap to make my dream happen. I live near Chicago, Illinois but suburbs. I’ve been in college for audio production for almost 7 months now. I have a lot of access to cool stuff with that, but I need the missing piece of the puzzle, which is to get involved in the community with other artists and producers. Everyone at my college seems to live so far away, and When I started reading about these courses and this community, I had to jump in.

Getting into my bio, and why I’m so motivated to do all of this: I am 33 years old and have been interested in music production and producing and making music in general since I was 17 years old. I found I had a talent and a drive to complete a song and perfect it. I started getting heavily involved in DAW software and more intricate aspects of music production such as creating a few beats in my mid 20’s. I didn’t really get into the beat making aspect until only a year ago. However, I have a lot of experience with the mixing process, plugins, effects, and training my ears in the process and learning things along the way. I started at 17 years old writing lyrics and rapping to 2 track beats for super cheap, or for free. No joke, I was so determined with the songwriting that I’ve written and misplaced about 1000 song lyrics because from age 17-26 I was obsessed with making it big as a rapper. I got so avid a writing, I gave up doing it at all and I’d just have Freestyle practice sessions for 4 hours everyday for 2 years before turning 26, recording the whole time and piece together a decent song from that. I have also been heavily involved in video editing, getting a couple million views on YouTube over the course of a few years. I was also trying to mix my love for music editing and video editing together by directing and shooting music videos for myself, a few friends, and an acquaintance or two for free.

At age 26: I began focusing solely on music rather than both music and video editing. I wanted to get serious about one of them and music was the one I could do for hours on end non-stop everyday and never felt sick of it. The fact that can work on a beat, or a song for 8-12 hours straight everyday and not feel drained of life and energy, was proof to me that I needed to put everything into this. All I know is that I no longer even have the will to work mindless labor for minimum wage. Even if I work only 4 hours at a normal job, I’m dead tired and miserable afterwards. When I work on something creative, developing a complex skill, applying my real talents for 10 hours straight, I actually get more energy as I start to see my work evolving into something amazing that I created. Who goes to work to flip burgers, but then goes home and pieces together a song on a digital audio workstation so intricate and complex that you need years of training to master it.?  Me,  … I guess….. I was that guy for years wasting my potential unwillingly. Anyway, that’s enough out of me, I’m going to not go back to my job brewing coffee,   I am going to join some courses on music theory, artist management, and probably research how to build a gaming computer. (I’m not an angry person, but having gone through what I went through to get here, I can’t afford to waste anymore time settling for jobs that make life miserable just so I can get money. And, I can’t waste it settling for people who cause the same misery just so I can be financially stable and live in a nice townhhome.
